Sustaining Volunteerism Initiative 2006 - 09
The South West Community Capacity Consortium (SWCCC) recognises that community strengthening is primarily about enhancing the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to manage their own affairs and to work collectively to foster and sustain positive change. The consortium recognises that volunteerism is an essential component for strong, resilient communities and that sustaining and growing the volunteer sector is closely aligned to the survival of many towns and rural communities.
In 2006, the SWCCC secured funding from the Gardiner Foundation and the Department for Victorian Communities for a project titled “South West Local and Regional Volunteerism Initiative 2006–2009 Strengthening and Sustaining South West Communities” (known a the Sustaining Volunteerism Initiative).
The Sustaining Volunteerism Initiative aims to strengthen community through the establishment of a strong and sustainable volunteerism network in South West Victoria based on collaboration between governments, community and the private sector, and building on existing volunteer networks. The Initiative is working with organisations across the five South West Shire Councils: Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and Warrnambool.
The Sustaining Volunteerism Initiative is being managed by Community Connections.
