Rewards for reading

sieds_graduates_bruce_sarahDecember is graduation time, but graduation isn’t only for the big kids. Three proud little girls have just received their Certificates of Achievement from their reading class at Community Connections.

For three years, these children have developed their reading and play skills by participating in the full range of Reading Discovery programs, including Rainbow Rhyming and the Beyond the Rainbow Transition to School program.

The programs engage young children—from babies to seven year olds—with reading and imagination skills, while encouraging good literacy and social confidence.

According to an ongoing Deakin University study, Reading Discovery graduates will likely have better than average reading skills, and be more prepared for the early school years.

The latest ‘graduates’ are no different, and they and their families are thrilled.

‘Throughout this time, all the girls have remained engaged with staff and have participated in all aspects of the program,’ said program coordinator Kim Mitchem.

‘Congratulations to them, and to their families too for their continued engagement and participation,’ Ms Mitchem said.

The Certificates of Achievement were awarded by Community Connections’ C.E.O. Bruce du Vergier and executive manager Sarah Prescott at the class premises (pictured).
