No Interest Loan Scheme

Help with relocating families

The MDU is pleased to offer refugees, new migrants and other community members who are on low incomes, the opportunity to apply for interest-free loans for approved travel costs associated with reuniting and permanent re-location of their family in Australia. People can apply for these loans under the No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS).

Approved loan items include:

•visas and passports

•airfares and other travel costs

•accommodation en route

•set up costs of households.

Other items may be acceptable at the steering group’s discretion. Loans are not approved where other assistance is available.

Eligibility for NILS
To be eligible for NILS you must:

•be a migrant, refugee or other community member
•have income within the Centrelink guidelines for maintaining a Low Income Health Care Card
•reside in Victoria for a minimum period of 3 months
•have the capacity or commitment to repay the loan
•be seeking a loan of not more than $2,500.
