Advocacy and assistance with housing issuesThe Social Housing and Support Program (SHASP) provides services that assist people to sustain their tenancies, with the aim of preventing homelessness and improving general outcomes for tenants. This service includes the Indigenous Social Housing and Support Program. The SHASP and Indigenous SHASP services offer two main types of assistance for public tenants: Support Services • Establishing successful tenancies by providing case support for new tenants who have a high risk of tenancy failure • Where a tenancy is breaking down, intervention to resolve factors placing the tenancy Advocacy & Community Development • Advocacy for tenants experiencing major difficulties and who are unable to advocate on their own behalf in their dealings with the Office of Housing (OOH) or their social housing provider • Advocacy and support in establishing eligibility for early housing applicants who are not homeless or receiving support from another program • Support for tenants to participate in consultative forums on issues relating to their housing, and support for existing and new tenant groups in their development as representative bodies of public housing tenants • Providing support relating to community facilities More information is available by downloading the brochures 'Social Housing and Support Program' and 'Indigenous Social Housing and Support Program'.
